LOS ANGELES – Even for Los Angeles, this will be a star-studded event for at least two rounds at the Genesis Open, with officials grouping Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy and tournament host Tiger Woods on Thursday and Friday.
Woods, who tied for 23rd last month in his first official PGA Tour start in a year at the Farmers Insurance Open, hasn’t played the Genesis Open since 2006 and made his Tour debut in ’92 at the age of 16.

Thursday’s opening round, when the group will go off the 10th tee at 10:22 a.m. ET, will be Woods’ 12th round with McIlroy, who missed the cut last week at Pebble Beach in his first start this season on Tour. The group tees off on Friday at 3:02 p.m. ET from the first tee.
Although Thomas, who played a nine-hole practice round with Woods on Tuesday, was paired with Tiger for the first two rounds in December at the unofficial Hero World Challenge, this week will mark the first time the two have played together in an official event.
“I think that all three of us are excited about playing with one another, and I’m looking forward to the challenge of not only competing against those guys but competing against the rest of the guys in the field,” Woods said.
World No. 1 and defending champion Dustin Johnson will play with past champions Adam Scott and Bubba Watson and tee off at 3:12 p.m. on Thursday off the first tee.
