SAN DIEGO – Following his first competitive round on the PGA Tour in a year, Tiger Woods touched on the things he needs to improve on, specifically iron play and putting.
He also mentioned what him happy – being nervous.
For Woods, being nervous is the byproduct of desire, something that’s come and gone over the last year since he underwent fusion surgery on his lower back in April. So if his even-par 72 on the South Course to begin his week at the Farmers Insurance Open isn’t exactly what he may have wanted, having those familiar nerves was a reason to be optimistic.

“Of course, I’m always nervous,” said Woods, who is tied for 84th and seven strokes off the early lead. “I care about what I do and it was fun to feel that competitive rush again and have a scorecard in my hand and try and post a number.”
Even on a course where he’s won eight times as a professional, Woods said there will always be a unique excitement, nerves even, when he tees it up.
“I still feel the same excitement, the same nerves,” Woods said.
