WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson continue to be a Solheim Cup machine for the Americans.
They were 2-0-1 two years ago in Germany. This week at Des Moines Golf and Country Club, they’re 2-0-1 together. Yes, they’ve never lost.
In fact, Kerr’s performance here this week – her ninth consecutive cup appearance – vaulted her to the top of the list for most points earned for the U.S. in the history of the Solheim Cup.
“I’ll tell you, there’s not a captain on the European team or the Americans team that would not want Cristie Kerr on her team,” said Juli Inkster, who Kerr surpassed on the points list. “She just gets after it. You just can’t teach heart. You can’t teach guts. You can’t teach willing the ball in the hole. She has that.”

Kerr, 39, was walking in putts from as far as 4-feet out at times during her Saturday performance. They easily dispatched of Jodi Ewart Shadoff and Caroline Masson, 5 and 3, and won again in the afternoon, 4 and 2, against Georgia Hall and Catriona Matthew.
In the afternoon fourball match, Kerr and Thompson were a combined 12 under in 16 holes and Kerr was 8 under on her own.
The icing on the cake came on the par-5 15th hole with only a 2-up advantage. Thompson had already hit a great pitch shot to about 4 feet for what would be a likely birdie.
Instead, Kerr holed out her bunker shot from the side of the green and threw her club in air in celebration.
“I just said ‘let me hit a good shot, try to send it to the hole, maybe it will go in,’” Kerr said. “It went it. It was perfect.”
Just like her record while paired with Thompson.
