After Patton Kizzire hit his approach shot to the par-4 sixth in the first round of the Mayakoba Golf Classic, no one was sure if it was good or not.
No one but Kizzire.
Kizzire exclaimed, repeatedly, “Oh, boy” after making contact. A TV announcer exclaimed, “That’s not a good, ‘Oh, boy.'”
Oh, but it was. Kizzire’s ball found the bottom of the hole for an eagle-2. That added to a wild early scorecard for the defending champion. After a double bogey at the par-4 third, Kizzire birdied No. 4, eagled the par-5 fifth, eagled the sixth and birdied the seventh.
The birdie at No. 7 came courtesy a nifty up and down from the rocks.
At 4 under par, he was three off the lead.
