Rickie Fowler went out in 2-under 34 on Friday thanks in part to an improbable long-range birdie at the par-5 seventh.

Putting from an inch off the green, he rolled in this quick downhill putt from 51 feet to move to 9 under for the championship.

Through 27 holes at a U.S. Open, Fowler managed not to drop a single shot.
