Starting the third day down six points, the International team needed a good start in the morning foursomes.
Jason Day provided a spark by chipping in for birdie on the par-3 seventh to give him and Marc Leishman a 1-up lead over the U.S. team of Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed.
There are two sessions on tap Saturday at Liberty National – four foursomes matches and four afternoon fourballs.
