Down to his final two shots in the Round of 16 at the Volvik World Long Drive Championship, Tim Burke needed to beat Stephen Kois’ 415-yard drive in order to advance.
He did. By 9 inches.
Burke’s seventh of eight official drives matched Kois’ 415-yard mark. After Burke’s eighth shot fell short, officials took a tape measurer to see who was farther. Kois was measured at 415 yards, 19 inches. Burke at 415 yards, 28 inches.
And with that, the two-time Volvik World Long Drive champion advanced to Wednesday’s quarterfinals, which airs on Golf Channel at 9 p.m. ET.
