PALM HARBOR, Fla. – As players around him in the world rankings continue to rack up trophies, Jordan Spieth’s focus remains on Magnolia Lane.
Spieth has largely flown under the radar in the first 10 weeks of the year, as big names like Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Justin Thomas, Jason Day and Phil Mickelson have all won tournaments. But rather than feel a sense of urgency, Spieth is busy identifying similarities between the state of his game and where he stood at this juncture three years ago.
It was in 2015 that Spieth captured the Valspar Championship in a playoff over Patrick Reed, the first domino in a breakthrough season that included victories at both the Masters and U.S. Open.

“It’s progressing. Actually really like where I’m at right at this second in regards to approaching Augusta,” Spieth said. “We’re in a very similar position to 2015 at this very moment. So, tremendous year going to take place from here on out.”
Spieth’s missed cut at the Waste Management Phoenix Open is now a distant memory, as he has quietly rattled off three straight top-20 finishes since. While those results haven’t been grabbing headlines, he’s able to keep things in perspective as he looks to once again spark a memorable summer.
“I really consider the Masters the start of the season, with anything leading into it as preparation for the Masters,” Spieth said. “This tournament, bringing really good vibes being here, can do a lot for me going forward for the rest of the season.”
