NORTON, Mass. – At one point this week, there were seven players who’d cracked the top 70 on the post-season points list with their play at TPC Boston, but when the smoke settled just three made the jump from the wrong side of the playoff bubble and into the BMW Championship.
Stewart Cink made the biggest jump, vaulting from 81st to 57th with his 12th-place finish, his best showing since June at the FedEx St. Jude Classic.
“It’s really satisfying,” said Cink, who closed with a 68 to earn a spot in the field at Conway Farms. “This tournament on its own is a big deal to me, and I wanted to play well here for a lot of reasons, but certainly that’s one of the reasons.”

Rafa Cabrera Bello also cracked the top 70, moving to 60th on the points list, from No. 80, with his tie for 18th; and Emiliano Grillo moved from 77th to 62nd after finishing alone in 22nd place.
“I knew starting the week that I had to be around top 30,” Cabrera Bello said. “Seemed like the projections were in the top 35 would be good enough. But I didn’t want to gamble with it. My goal wasn’t just to make it to Chicago. Obviously that’s the first step but I want to make it to [the Tour Championship], as well.”
On the other side of the playoff bubble was Brandt Snedeker, who isn’t playing the post-season as he recovers from an injury to his sternum joint; Kelly Kraft, who withdrew on Friday with a right foot injury, and Russell Knox, who slipped from 65th to 71st after tying for 61st.
Branden Grace appeared to have played his way into the BMW, until he made a double bogey-6 on the 12th hole. A birdie for the South African at No. 15 moved him to 74th on the projected list, but another double bogey at the 17th ended his season.
