The race for the final automatic European Ryder Cup spot is down to three players.

Thorbjorn Olesen has the advantage heading into this week’s Made in Denmark event on the European Tour, but Matthew Fitzpatrick and Eddie Pepperell can leapfrog Olesen if he doesn’t play well at home.

Fitzpatrick, who played in the 2016 Ryder Cup at Hazeltine, must win in Denmark and have Olesen finish no better than a three-way tie for seventh to supplant him.

As for Pepperell, he needs to win and have Olesen finish outside the top 12 to make his Ryder Cup debut.

Those are the only three players who can secure the final automatic spot, which means that Paul Casey, Ian Poulter, Henrik Stenson, Sergio Garcia and Rafa Cabrera Bello and others now have to rely on a captain’s pick.

Once the automatic selections are finalized on Sunday, captain Thomas Bjorn will make his four wildcard picks next Wednesday.

The players who have already secured a spot in Paris: Francesco Molinari, Justin Rose, Tyrrell Hatton, Tommy Fleetwood, Jon Rahm, Rory Mcllroy and Alex Noren.
