AVONDALE, La. – Will the success of the team format at the Zurich Classic lead to the creation of a PGA Tour-LPGA mixed team event?

PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said Sunday that it’s just “a matter of time.”

A few days after LPGA commissioner Mike Whan told GolfChannel.com that he has “significant interest” in a joint event, Monahan reiterated here at TPC Louisiana that it is “something we’d like to see.”

“We’re very interested in getting the men and women together inside the ropes in the same week and in the same competition,” Monahan said. “I think that’s something you’ll see in the future. It’s just a matter of time. That’s really exciting and interesting.”

One option that’s off the table: The Tournament of Champions, after the LPGA announced plans to have its own winners-only event at the start of the year.

But more broadly, Monahan said that he shares Whan’s desire.

“They’re partners of ours,” he said. “Generally speaking, that’s something we’d like to see.”
