Getting ready to play a course you’ve never seen, or one that’s way harder than you’re used to? Don’t get intimidated! No matter where you play, solid contact is the name of the game, not smashing it down the fairway. These pointers will get you headed in the right direction—and enjoying your day—whether you’re playing a familiar course down the road or tackling Pebble Beach for the first time.
What You Need to Know
• Your clubs are already designed to get the ball in the air. You don’t have to try to scoop or lift to get more height.
• The first goal is to make progress by advancing the ball. A grounder here and there is no big deal. Nobody—not even Tour pros—hits every shot perfectly!
• If you’re ready to play when it’s your turn, you’ll make fast friends with your group no matter what you shoot.
