Ryder Cup partners Francesco Molinari and Tommy Fleetwood are the only players who can walk away with the season-long Race to Dubai title on Sunday.
Five players were in the hunt heading into last week’s Nedbank Golf Challenge, but Haotong Li, Lucas Bjerregaard and Rory McIlroy could not earn enough points to tighten the race.
So here’s what Molinari and Fleetwood need to do this week in Dubai to take home the title:
FRANCESCO MOLINARI
The Open champion has more than a million-point lead (1,025,166), which makes his path to stay at the top a little easier. To be guaranteed the Race to Dubai title, Molinari needs a two-way tie for fifth or better. He would also take the title if Fleetwood failed to win the season finale in Dubai.
TOMMY FLEETWOOD
The defending Race to Dubai champion, Fleetwood’s scenario is simpler: Win, and have Molinari finish outside the top 5. Anything other than that, and he’ll watch as Molinari – with whom he teamed to go 4-0 at the Ryder Cup – is crowned as Europe’s No. 1.
