How Golfers Can Prepare for Post-Coronavirus Golf Events
The whole world is passing through a testing time in the face of Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19). What Impact the Previous Pandemics Had
Pandemics due to virus or flu have been a part of history since the year 165. The world has witnessed several plagues, cases of flu, smallpox and a few other viruses like HIV, Ebola, H1N1 and so on. COVID-19 is the latest inclusion in this list.
Trends over time show a gradual reduction in the death rate which is the only hope we can have now. Vaccines have been invented for almost all the previous flu or viruses that caused pandemics and situations developed gradually from their early stages. Vaccines for COVID-19 will also be invented someday.
Panic in such a situation will not help. Belief in such situations must have an end to this, though it may be years in the future and this once-dreadful disease will turn into a mild annoyance in the years to come.
When Could the Coronavirus Pandemic Be Over?
As you can see from the above image all the pandemics had an end, so we can surely expect that this one will eventually come to an end. It is very hard to predict how long the virus is going to infect and harm others. Especially when there is no vaccine found yet. Recent news says that possible vaccines will be in human trials within a few days for the first time. As you can see from the previous pandemics flu and viruses had its impact for more than a year and sometimes it took several years. Justin Lessler is an associate professor of epidemiology at the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health shares his thought on an article in The Washinton Post that COVID-19 might occur over a painful 6 (six) to 12 (twelve) months, or it might be spread over a more manageable several years.
The first sign of ending the coronavirus impact, scientists say, will be a decline in new cases over several consecutive weeks, even as testing expands. Like currently in China. But it hasn’t declined over the globe rather it is increasing every moment.
Stop The Spread Out First
The very first and foremost way to fight against a pandemic caused by any flu or viruses like COVID-19 is by staying home alone or away from others so that it does not spread out. Take all precautions while at home and also while outside for any important work. Maintain social distance. Follow the health rules issued by the World Health Organization (WHO) and educate others the same.
What could possibly be the Post-Pandemic (Coronavirus) situation
Post-pandemic means when the pandemic is over and people can get back to their normal lives. Though it doesn’t mean the virus has vanished. Because it is nearly impossible to identify each of them who are infectious or carrying this virus. Here the post-pandemic term is used to explain a situation when the mortality rate goes down as close to 0 (zero), there is enough equipment to cut the spread of the virus.
When new infections rate falls to a level that hospitals throughout the world can manage. “Experts predict different regions will still experience a series of peaks and valleys in virus caseloads until a vaccine can be developed, something that will likely take at least 12 to 18 months.” an article in The Boston Globe reports.
So there will be a time sooner or later when life returns to normal. We will get there even if we fail to develop a vaccine, discover new drugs or eliminate the virus through dramatic public health action, though any of these are welcome because they would hasten the end of the crisis. To cut down the spread of the virus social distancing has played a foremost role. But social distancing due to the coronavirus has surely impacted on the world economy and social life.
So it will be hard to call when to relax social distancing restrictions, governments will have to weigh economic against public health consequences in determining when, or whether, to reimpose them.
Like other major sports, professional golf is officially on hold. Major tournaments like The Masters, The Players, and all PGA tours have been postponed due to coronavirus. The golfing fraternity has warmly welcomed the decision. For more about the impact of coronavirus on golf, check out our other article dedicated to this here.
How Golfers Can Prepare for Future Golf Events
Like we said golfers are staying at home as suggested by health experts and government personnel. But the situation will improve someday sooner or later and we will be among the golf tournaments once again. If you are healthy and away from virus infection, as you are staying at home you can prepare for future tournaments and other golf events at your home and even in the backyard. Here I am sharing some tips that you can implement as part of your preparation. This will help you develop your performance for sure.
Hydrate and eat healthy to stay healthy
Keeping yourself healthy and sporty is the first and foremost factor for preparing yourself prior to any tournaments. Human bodies are composed of about 60% water. Health authorities commonly recommend eight 8-ounce glasses, which equals about 2 liters of liquids daily for a healthy lifestyle. This is called the 8×8 rule and is very easy to remember. So, drink enough water every day to stay fresh and healthy. Have a balanced diet and proper hydration. A healthy body supports a healthy mind to focus on your goals and objectives.
Focus on your fitness and workout
Healthy food works best with a proper workout to help maintain your fitness. As you are staying home, the chances of getting some fat is high. Burn it and maintain your fitness by simply doing some exercises. You need not to go to the gym to work out. You can do those exercises at your home as well. Take help from online resources, if you need it. There are several resources to keep you fit along with different apps and gadgets that measure your workout and provide an expert opinion based on this. You can also do the stretching. Find out how important golf stretching is in our other article titled Importance of golf stretching and the best ways to do it.
Keep your focus on future events
Panic in such a situation will not help. The current situation may get worse or improve but it will end someday. Definitely, you can seek help from your creator but overthinking it will cause you nothing but illness. Follow the methods explained below to cope with stress and focus on the future events rather than the current pandemic situation.
Shadow practicing
Shadow practicing is a good method for learning the basic movements or subroutines of a skill or technique golf. You can shadow your swings and strokes without the involvement of any objects like clubs in front of a mirror and watch out for the flaws you may have. Then improve those by yourself or by sharing those with professionals. With this shadow practice, you can improve your swing and also increase your golf swing.
Practice using Putting Greens at home
With the help of Putting Greens and Putting Aids, you can easily spend quality time at your home or backyard and enhance your skill. Putting green is a smooth area of short grass surrounding a hole just like a golf course putting a hole for putting. Putting aids is an equipment that helps to put a ball into the hole easily. But putting aids are used for practices only. Putting greens enhances your skill and game easily. It also prepares you with putt holes where many golfers get nervous.
Spend productive time with golf simulators
Golf simulators might be the best solution to practice golf at home. If you ensure a favorable setting for your simulator & concentrate in your swing, your simulator can analyze and provide accurate simulation results of your swing. Based on that you can surely know in which portion you need to improve. As we are still unsure about how long we might need to stay at home you can certainly buy one of the best golf simulators, or build your own.
Study the beautiful game of golf
With all, I mentioned earlier, you may even get some free time or get monotonous doing these, then you can watch previous golf tournaments of your or other professionals and study to learn new tricks. Or maybe studying some amazing golf stats or interesting golf facts that you might be unaware of.
We Shall Overcome Someday
The Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic is in its early days and it is obviously impossible to predict its future impact. Epidemics are like fires: when there is ample fuel, they rage uncontrollably, and when it lacks fuel, fire smolders slowly. This post and infographic are created and presented with the experiences from previous pandemics and meant to provide historical context.
When we have the belief that we will overcome this present pandemic situation we will start to live better and enjoy our life. Worrying will never change the outcome. Trust your creator, beg to him. And get ready to face the post-pandemic conditions smoothly. If you are proactive and prepared to face the next phase of coronavirus you will have a head-start from those who are not ready yet.
