NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Coming off an oblique injury, Rickie Fowler played 72 holes last week to simulate the experience of the BMW Championship.
He played well in South Florida and carried it over into an actual tournament.
Fowler carded a bogey-free, 5-under 65 to sit just three shots off the lead at Aronimink.

“It’s tough coming back to competitive golf,” he said. “You don’t always know exactly what’s going to happen out there, but I feel like we did a good job of swinging within ourselves, playing our game and hit a lot of good shots.”
Fowler said that he didn’t feel any discomfort with his oblique injury, which forced him to withdraw from the first two playoff events. His most troublesome position would be with the driver, when he stretches his side, but he was able to swing freely.
“That’s kind of the main focus,” he said. “If I swing properly and take care of that, there shouldn’t be any issues.”
